SPECIAL TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES

OF THE DIECKMANN GROUP

High Resolution Thermobalance

For the experimental investigation of the variation of the oxygen content of oxides as a function of the oxygen partial pressure at constant temperature a special, non-commercial thermobalance is available which has a resolution of the order of 1 mg in flowing gases at a total pressure of the order of 0.5 atm and at temperatures up to 1400 °C.

Radioactive Tracer Laboratory

A radioactive tracer laboratory is available for studying the diffusion of cations in oxides. It is equipped with three high temperature furnaces with controlled atmospheres capable to reach temperatures up to about 1400 °C, equipment for g-spectroscopy (high resolution Ge-detector), measuring b-radiation, and for sectioning.

High Temperature Furnaces with Controlled Atmospheres

We have for electrical conductivity and reaction experiments several other high temperature furnaces with controlled atmospheres available. Most reach temperatures up to about 1400 °C, some of them temperatures up to about 1700 °C. All these furnaces are equipped with electrochemical cells for monitoring the oxygen partial pressure.

Image Furnace

Furthermore, we have an image furnace is available for the growth of ceramic single crystals. By using the floating zone technique, single crystals of congruently melting, non-transparent materials with melting temperatures up to 2800 °C can be grown. For more information on ceramic single crystal growth with this image furnace click here.
